The activity of the Poas volcano on Costa Rica has recently increased. Several small phreatic (steam) explosions occurred on the crater of the lake.
Scientists also recorded increased gas emissions and temperature growth. A large group of tourists was evacuated from the territory of the volcano. Some of them suffered – volcanic gases caused irritation of the throat and eyes.
A new degassing was noticed on the shore of the lake, which also changed its color. The Poas Volcano National Park, located around the Poas volcano, was founded in 1971. It also includes two extinct volcanoes: Font Franzis and Botos.
