The waters of the Adriatic Sea suddenly recede from the shores of Croatia

On March 29, 2021, an unprecedented water retreat occurred in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Suddenly, the water in Dubrovnik disappeared, surprising many vacationers and residents of the ancient city in southern Croatia.

The Adriatic Sea is a semi-enclosed part of the Mediterranean Sea between the Apennine and Balkan peninsulas, which washes the shores of several countries: Italy (over 1000 km), Slovenia (47 km), Croatia (1777 km), Bosnia and Herzegovina (20 km), Montenegro (200 km), Albania (472 km).

“Where did all the water go?”, “Do we really have to be afraid of a tsunami?”, “Is this generally normal?” – the local residents discussed what was happening. They probably remembered the devastating earthquake of 1667 that destroyed the entire city.

Similar ebb tides have been recorded in Nin lagoon, one of the largest in Croatia. In this area, the low tide was so great that some of the islands could be reached on foot. The sea has disappeared altogether … the sea has become dry land. And in Split too …

According to scientists, such a phenomenon has never happened on the coast of Croatia. In order to calm the population and not scare off tourists, scientists explained what was happening with a full moon and a small amount of rainfall, which combined led to the largest fluctuations in sea level at low tide.

Of course, you can reassure residents and tourists, the Croatian authorities really do not want to incur losses, but is what is happening really connected with the full moon and the rest of the nonsense that was declared the culprit of the anomaly?
