Three people killed in floods and landslides in Nepal

Three people have been killed and two are missing as a result of floods and landslides in different parts of Darchula district.

Flooding and landslides following incessant rain on Sunday night damaged houses and also caused loss of life in various places in rural Dukhun and Mahakali communities.

Narsingh Mahar and his wife Kausha Mahar were killed when a landslide buried their home in Baspalik of rural Dukhun community. The landslide came down at night while the couple were sleeping, said District Attorney Manohar Prasad Bhatta.

Similarly, Manuwa Dadal died due to flooding in Dulla of Duhun-5 rural community. Flooding in the local Kalagad River, which occurred around 10 p.m., swept away Dadal’s home.

The flood also damaged bridges, a micro-hydropower plant and a water mill. The flood also killed cattle.

The flood damaged five stores, two hydroelectric power plants, four suspension bridges and a concrete bridge in the area.

In addition, two people are missing after being washed away by the flood in Nijanggadh, District No. 3 of the rural municipality. They are Sher Singh Karki and Harak Singh Karki. The overflowing Nijanggad river washed away and damaged the RCC bridge and two suspension bridges on the Darchula-Tinkar road section.
