A three-month-old girl was brought with injuries to a hospital in Veliky Novgorod from the district center of the Poddorye, where a natural phenomenon is rare for the region – a tornado tore roofs and knocked out windows in residential buildings.
This was reported on Monday in the press service of the Government of the Novgorod region.
“A three-month-old girl was brought from the village of Poddorye to the regional children’s hospital, as the regional department of healthcare explained, the cause of the injuries was a sudden strong wind, but the nature of the injuries is not specified.”
According to eyewitnesses, on the roof of a private apartment building in which the girl was, a garage was lifted to the air. As the inhabitant of Poddorya told, the tornado crater passed within two minutes along a narrow strip, leaving behind the trees torn from the roots, crumpled fences from the metal profile and small pieces of slate from the roofs.
As confirmed in the EMERCOM of the Novgorod region, “as a result of a complex of hazardous meteorological phenomena associated with rainfall and wind, the roofs of 19 dwellings, a kindergarten, a school, a post office and a house of creativity were damaged in the Poddorsky District”, power lines were cut off . At the scene, the head of the department Bogdan Gavkalyuk works, to monitor the situation, an operational group is directed to the scene of the incident, and an operational headquarters functions.
