Tornado hits Chinese city of Huludao, uprooting trees and damaging more than 50 homes

A powerful tornado swept through a Chinese city, uprooting trees, ripping off roofs and destroying cars.

At least 50 homes were damaged when a terrifying tornado swept through buildings in the city of Huludao in northeastern China’s Liaoning province on August 25.

Footage taken by a resident from inside an apartment showed the tornado rapidly gaining strength as it approached in a spiral, sweeping debris from buildings into the air.

The tornado lasted about a minute but damaged more than 50 homes, uprooted trees and brought down streetlights.

One person was injured and sent to the hospital for treatment.
