Tropical Rain in the Novosibirsk Region of Russia

Record rainfall hit the night of July 25 in the north-western regions of the Novosibirsk region. At the meteorological station “Severnoe” in nine hours 152 mm of precipitation fell.

Such intensity of rain is more characteristic for wet tropics and makes 230% of a local monthly norm.

The situation in the atmosphere was determined by the influence of a sedentary atmospheric front, in the zone of which powerful convective cells developed. One of these weather systems set a new daily maximum of the month. The previous daily extreme of July was 66 mm and was established in 1940.

It is curious that at the nearby meteorological stations the amount of precipitation was usual – from 2 to 19 mm per night.
