Two explosions occurred today on the Japanese volcano Sakurajima (Kyushu, Japan). The explosive eruption of the volcano continues at moderate levels.

One small and one moderate explosion occurred today at 05:10 and 12:27 local time. The ash plume reached heights of 2438 m and 2743 m and drifted northwest and northwest, respectively.

Plumes contain small amounts of sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions.

The flow of magma still continues to rise in the channels of the volcano.

The seismic station recorded 11 volcanotectonic earthquakes.

The warning bulletin states that ballistic strikes from volcanic bombs and pyroclastic flows could affect an area about 2 km from the main crater.
