Two major fires in rural Arizona have scorched more than 138,000 acres of land and forced thousands of residents to flee their homes.
Firefighters in the eastern part of the state are battling a 71,756-acre fire and a 66,913-acre blaze.
Authorities say the first fire has been burning since last week but is zero percent contained and the second fire is 23 percent contained.
At least 2,500 homes in Gila County have been evacuated, said Carl Melford, the county’s emergency manager.
