USA – Colorado power outage: More than 38,000 people are cut off from electricity in Weld and Larimer counties, Denver area.

Heavy snow, sleet and windy weather conditions can cause power outages throughout the area

More than 36,000 Xcel Energy customers lost power Sunday morning in the Greeley area and other parts of northern Colorado due to heavy wet snow from a winter storm.

More than 1,600 customers in the Denver metro area, many of which are located along the Lakewood-Denver border, were also left without electricity. Xcel Energy said 36,268 people in Veld and Larimer counties were without electricity as of 11:00 am Sunday.

According to the company’s outage map, most outages occurred in the Greeley area, including Fort Collins and Eaton.
