A violent explosion occurred on the Stromboli volcano, Italy, October 6, 2021. The explosion ejected a considerable amount of coarse pyroclastic material that went beyond the crater terrace, affected the areas of Pizzo Sopra la Fossa and Sciara del Fuoco and rolled up to the coastline.

The eruption produced an ash cloud that quickly dispersed in a NE direction. In addition, a small lava outburst was observed near the North Crater.

Simultaneously with the large explosion, a seismic event significantly exceeding the average amplitude was registered.
