A HASSINA cargo ship washed ashore near the beach in Tamatave, northeast Madagascar.
The vessel had been anchored without crew for about a year, so it can be assumed that it was anchored and without crew at the time of the accident.
Heavy rough seas broke the anchor chains and the dry-cargo carrier was drifting aground and uncontrollably on the shore until it ran aground.
Attempts to bring it back to the water as of April 29 were unsuccessful.
