Ebola returns to Congo

A case of Ebola haemorrhagic fever has been reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The patient, a 20-year-old male, has passed away. The incident occurred in the city of Beni in the province of North Kivu.

This is the first case of Ebola in DR Congo since the end of the 12th outbreak announced in May. L’actualité notes that this may indicate the return of the epidemic.

The 12th Ebola outbreak in Congo began in February 2021. 6 people were killed.

Ebola is carried by a virus that is dangerous to both humans and animals. A major epidemic of this fever broke out in 2015 in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. 11.3 thousand people died.
