Scania in cooperation with Siemens opened the first section of the “electric highway” along which a truck equipped with a pantograph pantographed will be able to drive without using fuel.
A two-kilometre stretch is along the road E16 near gävle in Central Sweden. In the future we plan to open several such sites in the country. According to representatives of Scania, this will help to reduce the emissions produced by trucks.
Trucks, once on the “electric road”, will be able to automatically connect to the network, the rest of the time they will travel on the fuel of Euro 6 and biofuels. In the case of the overtaking truck will be able to disconnect from the network and then re connect. The cost of the program Electric Road E16 was about 8 million euros.
