Is the Earth’s oxygen supply running out?

Contrary to popular belief that there may be a shortage of oxygen on Earth, scientists say there is no such problem. The oxygen needed for life on the planet has been accumulated over millions of years and its reserves are still significant. Today’s supply of oxygen on Earth supports life on the planet and continues to gradually decline. However, according to climatologist Alexei Kokorin, this process is insignificant and does not pose a threat to humanity. The concentration of oxygen in the atmosphere is more than 20%, while carbon dioxide is only 0.04%. Therefore, even if the concentration of carbon dioxide increases, the amount of oxygen remains stable.

However, it is necessary to pay attention to how mankind utilizes these resources. The use of fossil fuels such as oil and coal releases large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This leads to climate change and can have a negative impact on ecosystems and life on the planet as a whole.

In light of this, many scientists and environmentalists are calling for a switch to cleaner energy sources. Renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, can significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions and help preserve the Earth’s oxygen supply.

The discovery of oxygen in 1774 by Joseph Priestley and Carl Scheel ushered in a new phase in scientific research and understanding of chemical processes. Oxygen has become a key component for many branches of science and technology, including medicine, industry and the space research program.
