March 2017 is the warmest in the history of meteorological observations

According to the operational climate monitoring conducted at the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, the average temperature in March 2017 in the Russian Federation is the highest in the history of regular meteorological observations in the country, i.е. For the last 127 years. It exceeded the previous record, belonging to March 1990, immediately by 1.5 º С.

In March 2017, record high average monthly air temperatures were reached in the Urals, Siberia and the Far North Federal Districts. In the Central Federal District and in the South of the Far Eastern Federal District – they have the second rank among the highest values, and in the North-West Federal District – the third.

During the month, new air temperature maxima were set in many regions of the country, including absolute maximums for the month. Throughout the country, the temperature standards are exceeded by 2 º C and more, and in the Urals, Siberia and the Far East – from 5 to 14 º C. (In the Yamalo-Nenets and Taymyr autonomous regions, as well as in the north of Yakutia – 14 º C). Never on such a vast territory were there such large anomalies of the average monthly air temperature.

In the Russian capital, it was the third warmest March in history, followed by the extremely warm March 2007 and March of the year before last.

In the Northern Hemisphere of March 2017, the Earth should also be considered very warm. Its average temperature is second only to the similar value of last year. The past March was very warm for Europe and the USA (anomalies of the average air temperature for the month of + 2 … + 4 º C), West Africa (anomalies – +2.0 Cº and more) and already traditionally – in the Arctic, especially in its eastern, E. Russian sector.

Although the vast majority of the hemisphere was captured by abnormally warm air, there are regions where the month was noticeably colder than usual. In the Western Hemisphere – this is primarily Alaska and the western provinces of Canada. Here, the air on the average for the month turned out to be colder than the norm by 2-6 º C. At 1-2 º C it is colder – in the southeast of Canada and the northeast of the USA. In the Eastern Hemisphere, these are the states of Central Asia. Above some water areas in the temperate and tropical latitudes of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, the air also turned out to be colder than the norm.
