New Ebola outbreak in Congo

Congo health officials have confirmed a new outbreak of Ebola in the east of the country, the fourth in less than three years.

A woman died in Butembo, North Kivu province, on February 3, Health Minister Eteni Longondo said.

“A woman from the neighboring village of Biena felt unwell for several days before being examined at a local clinic. She then went to the hospital in Butembo, but died before receiving results. The government began tracking everyone who contacted her to try to “eradicate the epidemic as soon as possible,” Longondo said.

The good news is that Ebola is not easy to pass from one person to another. But, of course, Ebola can mutate at any time.
