Scientists justified the need for digital twins

Experts in the health care and aerospace industries said that the development of digital twin technology makes it a powerful tool for many processes.

For example, in relation to healthcare, a digital twin, that is, a virtual copy of real objects that can be used to predict how one or another object will work, is able to predict the development of a patient’s disease and the human body’s response to different treatments.

In the aerospace industry, in a situation where you need, for example, to monitor and control thousands of drones, carry out timely maintenance and create safe flight plans, taking into account changing weather conditions, the technology of virtual twins will also prove useful, experts say. The virtual counterpart will be involved in tracking and predicting particularly difficult cases.

“A digital twin will change the way we interact with and control the physical world,” says Mark Girolami, a professor at the Alan Turing Institute. However, it is still too early to talk about absolute success with this technology. To achieve it, it requires a lot of basic research to realize the idea of digital doubles.
