Scientists tested the Martian greenhouse

NASA specialists together with scientists from the University of Arizona tested a prototype of an inflatable greenhouse, which can be used on Mars or on the Moon for growing various plants, reports Universe Today. It is assumed that such greenhouses can provide astronauts with oxygen and food.

The inflatable greenhouse has a size of 5.5×2 m. It has LED lamps. It is assumed that such greenhouses will be underground to protect them from radiation.

Light will also come from the surface through optical fibers. Soil in the greenhouses will not. They will use the method of hydroponics. Water will be supplied directly to the roots through special channels and enriched with nutrients.
