RAS recommendation on space approved parameters of the project on creation of system of monitoring of the space bodies coming to Earth; researches will begin in 2017.
Research works carry the names “System of Detection of Day Asteroids” (SDDA) and “SODA detection”, notes the edition. The system will allow to find celestial bodies with a diameter more than ten meters in four hours prior to expected time of atmospheric entry.
NIR purpose SODA — detection and monitoring of the dangerous celestial bodies coming to Earth from the Sun is noted by the newspaper. The budget for the next year constitutes ten million rubles. In turn, NIR “SODA detection” assumes mathematical modeling of work of a space complex SODA. The budget of this program constitutes 2,5 million rubles. The head contractor appointed Institute of astronomy of RAS (INASAN).
“The Chelyabinsk meteorite in 2013 demonstrated that any land means it is impossible to find the space body coming to us from the Sun. Optical tools are lit, and radio telescopes are usually expected the overview within several thousand kilometers from Earth. The probability that such body as the Chelyabinsk meteorite, will destroy the city, of course, is small. But it is necessary to warn about such events. Therefore the expert group on space threats was faced by a task to offer the sensor of the bodies coming from the day sky” — quotes the edition the research supervisor of INASAN Boris Shustov.
According to data of the newspaper, the SODA project provides a construction of the spacecraft which will be sent to one of Lagrange’s points — L1 which is at distance in one and a half million kilometers from Earth.
