The spread of the new coronavirus in the world has become a pandemic, said World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhan Gebreyesus at a briefing in Geneva.
“In the coming days and weeks, we expect the number of cases, deaths and the number of affected countries to increase,” he said.
A pandemic is an unusually strong epidemic characterized by the spread of an infectious disease throughout the country, the territory of neighboring states, and sometimes many countries of the world.
The total number of new coronavirus infections in the world amounted to 118 thousand people in 114 countries.
According to WHO, 4291 patients died.
In Russia, 28 cases of coronavirus infection were recorded, of which 25 were from Russians who returned from Italy, two from Chinese citizens, one from an Italian citizen.
