A meteorite falling over the Mediterranean Sea was recorded

On May 14, 2021 at 02:25 UTC over the Mediterranean Sea, between the coasts of Spain and Morocco, the fall of a meteorite was recorded.

According to calculations, the meteorite entered the Earth’s atmosphere at about 68,000 km/h.

It began to glow brightly at an altitude of about 89 km above the Mediterranean Sea, over a point about 13 km from the Spanish coast, and disappeared at an altitude of about 29 km, over a point about 34 km from the Moroccan coast.

This event was recorded by the Southwest European Meteor Network (SWEMN) SMART project, from meteor observation stations located in La Jita (Toledo), Calar Alto (Almeria), Sierra Nevada (Granada) and Seville.
