The most detailed map of the moon was compiled by scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other research centers. They published it in the Science Bulletin.
The researchers analyzed all the data accumulated over the past decades on the surface of the moon and plotted them on a map at a scale of 1: 2,500,000. To date, this is the most detailed map of the moon, scientists say.
“Geological maps of the Moon provide comprehensive information about the geological strata, structural features, lithology and chronology of the surface of the lunar crust, which reflect its evolution under conditions of magmatic processes, catastrophic impacts and volcanic activity. The map is a modern illustration of craters from different periods, the distribution of 17 types of rocks and 14 types of geological structures, ”the researchers said.
