Coronal mass ejection hitting the Earth caused a powerful geomagnetic storm

The coronal mass ejection (CME) generated by a magnetism filament eruption on May 9, 2021, reached Earth on May 12, and caused the strongest magnetic storm in recent memory, reaching Kr7 levels.

Solar wind speed increased from an average of 320 km/s to 450 km/s.

Geomagnetic K-index 7
Threshold reached: 2021 May 12, 1258 UTC
