Meteorite fall observed in Santa Catarina, Brazil

The meteorite entered the Earth’s atmosphere at a speed of over 70 km/s. The fall was recorded on August 19 in Monte Castelo, north of Santa Catarina.

According to the JJS/SC meteor monitoring station associated with Bramon (Brazilian Meteor Observation Network), the meteor illuminated the sky for 4.4 seconds.

The meteorite traveled the distance between the cities of Freiburgo and Campo Belo do Sul in the state of Santa Catarina in less than five seconds.
