On the asteroid Bennu found traces of water

The presence of water on the asteroid is evidenced by the “data collected by two spectrometers” of the automatic station.

On the Bennu asteroid under study, the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft detected traces of water. Researcher at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, Amy Simon clarified that this is a hydro-containing mineral.

The presence of water on the asteroid is evidenced by the “data collected by two spectrometers” of the automated station, NASA noted.

Specialists who are engaged in the maintenance of the OSIRIS-REx apparatus, believe that the remains of water on the asteroid are everywhere. Perhaps, once water was present on a large cosmic body, from which Bennu asteroid broke away. However, there was no water in it in liquid form because of its small size, NASA explained.
