NASA published a photo of the Sun, combined from three images with different wavelengths in the ultraviolet spectrum. Our star can be imprinted on 10 different wavelengths of ultraviolet.
The left side of the image shows jets of solar material, also called small spicules. On the central segment, one can see a large and dark coronal hole – areas on the surface of the Sun with a lower temperature and plasma density. The third image shows plasma jets and you can see even a small flash just above the center.
Photographs of the Sun receives the Solar Dynamics Observatory, owned by NASA. The spacecraft transmits images to the Earth every 12 seconds with a resolution of 4096 × 4096 pixels.
