Two class C outbursts occurred on the Sun

Two class C flares originated from active area AR2775 on October 16. The strongest reached C3.5 by launching a plasma cloud into space.

Both flares are not directed towards the Earth. Ultraviolet radiation from the flares briefly ionized the Earth’s upper atmosphere, causing shortwave radio frequency shutdowns over South America.
